One person, one plan, one to four weeks

There's no fixed group and no timetable printed in advance. You come to Ramat Beit Shemesh, and I shape the time around what's actually happening in your life. How long you stay depends on how deep the pattern runs, what's at stake at home, and how much time away your family and work allow. I'll recommend a length once we've spoken, and you make the call.I personally plan, coordinate, and supervise

What I treat

Sex addiction

Affairs, paid sex, apps, or a second life you've never described to anyone. When sexual behavior has stopped being a choice, that's my field. You can say it plainly. I've heard it before, and I won't flinch.

Compulsive inappropriate imagery and the internet nisayon

For many frum men it began young, on a phone or a computer late at night. Filters went up, kabbalos were made, and it kept coming back. Once a shmiras einayim struggle turns compulsive, it calls for addiction therapy. Guard Your Eyes (GYE) has helped thousands of frum men and families, and it's a wonderful first step. When it hasn't been enough, an intensive brings the clinical work.

Marriage and trust after discovery

If your wife found out, the marriage is hurting on both sides. For a married man, couples work is part of the intensive when his situation calls for it. Your wife isn't referred out: I personally plan, coordinate, and supervise her care as well. At the right point, we prepare a therapeutic disclosure so the truth comes out once, with care.

Closeness and emotional connection

Some men can't let anyone near, their wife included. Old hurt, loneliness, and years of hiding usually sit underneath. We work on that directly, so closeness in the marriage, emotional first and then physic

What the weeks look like

Every intensive is different, so this is the general shape:- A full history, so the plan matches what's really going on.
- A clear definition of sobriety, which I give you at the start.
- Your own cycle: which moods, hours, rooms, and screens tend to start it.
- Safeguards for your phone, your computer, and the hours when you're most at risk.
- The pain underneath, with trauma work such as EMDR when it's appropriate.
- Couples sessions and disclosure planning, for married men when the situation calls for it.
- A written aftercare plan to take home.Not all of the work happens in a chair. Depending on your plan, the weeks can include equine therapy, psychodrama, and time outdoors in the Judean Hills.Lodging and glatt kosher meals are part of the program, so all you have to focus on is the work.Davening, learning, and Shabbos stay part of your week, with minyanim close by. If you'd like to spend Shabbos with a frum family in recovery, I can arrange it. That's completely optional, and many men keep to themselves.

Brad Salzman created Shemesh Recovery Israel and serves as its clinical director. A graduate of Yale and Columbia, he was trained and certified as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) by Dr. Patrick Carnes in 2011.
